GODS OF WAR brings out the greatest of MANOWAR's musical attributes by utilizing both epic song structures and dramatic narratives. Much like Ragnarok - the final battle at the end of the world - when listening to MANOWAR's epic saga, the earth will shake, the walls will crumble and only true fans of metal will remain standing, heads held high, with the triumphant glimmer of a battle well-fought in their eyes.

Track List:
1 - Overture To The Hymn Of The Immortal Warriors
2 - The Ascension
3 - King Of Kings
4 - Army Of The Dead, Part II
5 - Sleipnir

GODS OF WAR is MANOWAR's first entry in a cycle of concept albums; each a tribute to a different war god. Opening with the epic piece â??Overture To The Hymn Of The Immortal Warriors', the tone is set for an album beyond anything MANOWAR has done before. This album honors Odin - almighty father of the Norse gods - and details the history and exploits of this storied character. His power and wisdom were unmatched among the gods and he is paid tribute with human sacrifice on the battlefield, as heard in the song "The Sons Of Odin", the stomping title track "Gods Of War" and the storytelling "The Blood Of Odin".

  1. Steel packed in.. Steel!

Posted by Matěj Němec on 12th Aug 2016

You have asked me to do this. So I am doing this.

Gods of War is 10th album released by Kings of Metal and it´s probably the most controversial album of the band. I have seen dozens of reviews bitching about this album. On the other hand, there are people claiming that this is the best effort Manowar has ever done. Do I belong to any of these groups? Not at all.

First of all, music. I love this album, it was the first album I have ever heard alongside with Warriors of the World and it made me love Manowar until like .. forever? What drives people mad are "non-metal" parts of this album. Especially two overtures. And Honestly, I don´t mind neither of those. I think they are pretty decent classical music efforts. The first one is kind of too long, but it does not bother me. And Overture to Odin is shorter and better, the melody is sorrowful yet triumphal. What I don´t really like are long talking parts on this album. The Ascension is great, but Blood of Odin and the second one are pure fillers. Album would be better without them. Now heavy stuff on Gods of War is heavy! I think it is really great idea to tie everything under one story. From groundbreaking King of Kings, through Majestic Gods of War until last note of Hymn of Immortal Warrior, it all feels like one story where one song could not be without previous one. Except Blood Brothers and Die for Metal. Blood Brothers is just not so great ballad and eventhrough Die for Metal is glorious song, it was right choice to put it there as Bonus track. I am probably exception among fan base, cause everyone loves Loki, King of Kings or Sons of Odin. But in my opinion, the best tracks are two last (and King of Kings of course, that track is pure killer). Odin and Hymn of Immortal Warrior both sorrowful yet Majestic and Victorious, like mentioned before.

Production is just great, enough said. Album still sound better than 99% nowdays efforts and is 9 years old.

Now, the last part. Packing. This sets the standarts that no other album can overcome! This is how digi-books should be released! Album packed in steel sleeve! How awesome is that?

At the end of day, I enjoy listening to this album from time to time, eventhrough I don´t skip those boring talking parts, I could still live without them.

Highlights: The Ascension + King of Kings. Army of Dead Part II, Odin, Hymn of Immortal Warrior and Loki.

Alternate track list: The Ascension, King of Kings, Army of Dead Part II, Sleipnir, Loki, Overture to Odin, Sons of Odin, Gods of War, Odin, Hymn of Immortal Warrior. Bonus tracks: Die for Metal, Blood Brothers. Digi-pack specials: Glory, Majesty, Unity, Blood of Odin, Overture to Hymn of Immortal Warrior, Army of Dead.
